EXCELLENT PROGRAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, 06-11-2018 11:17AM

By: Mother of Person Served in Shelby county

Currently my daughter is employed by We Can Too and to be very blunt I don't believe there is a better place for her to be working! The work environment itself provides her with a more casual atmosphere while at the same time challenges her to stay focused and on task in order to reach the set goals of production - thus, she doesn't fear harsh criticism but still grows in self discipline and that definitely is a goal worth reaching! Another benefit deals with the fact that as there is staff supervision it is a SAFE place for my daughter. You see, my daughter lacks the ability to discern between appropriate and inappropriate behaviors, is quite a social butterfly and loves everybody so at times she doesn't realize the boundaries of relationships - whether it's work relationships or friend relationships - thus she is quite vulnerable and is easy prey for anyone wanting to take advantage. I truly appreciate not having to worry about those types of situations occurring without anyone taking note. The staff also tries to clarify what one should do and shouldn't do in the workplace - so that too is a reason to be thankful! The job itself offers multiple skill sets as a variety of tasks and or jobs are available. With the practice of rotating workers between job assignments my daughter is allowed to grow in abilities so if and when she is ready for community employment she will have these skills to support her in her endeavors. Yes, I would highly recommend We Can Too!!!!!!

I've worked at We Can Too for about 8 years. I've done car detailing, water bottles, water room, the barn, fireworks, worm farm, AAP, flicking, and cleaning. I want to make the list for mowing yards. My van driver takes me to work; he is a good driver. I like my bosses. They tell me to focus on my work. They help me be a team captain. Sometimes I get shout outs. On Fridays I order lunch in. My picture is on the board because I work in the community some days.

I've had two family members use We Can Too's services. One individual has been with them since they've opened, but We Can Too's role in his life has evolved. He now works several days each week at a community job while attending WCT the other days to continue to hone his skills. He has learned to do a variety of jobs, and many new opportunities are added regularly. His team expects him to be full-time in the community in the future. Our other individual needs more supports for success. He also works part-time in a community job. We Can Too continues to work with him on some behavioral and communication needs and hopefully he will be able to expand his days in community employment as well.
I find that the We Can Too owners and staff members are caring, but have very high expectations. They change their programming and approach to align with state rules and individual's needs.
My family members like working in the environment provided at We Can Too. Fun activities (such as a holiday party) are occasionally included within the work day, but not too often, as it is considered a work training place first. Transportation provided is very reliable. As far as therapeutic/clinical intervention - I'm not sure what all WCT provides, but it seems to be built into programming to work on my family member's issues such as occasional refusal to work, off task behaviors, communication deficits, etc. I find that our concerns, opinions, and wishes are always listened to and addressed.
We are very grateful that such a high-quality, high-performing workplace training center is available in our area.
