We have a transportation depatment that serves not only clients of Anne Grady but many people with disabilities who live in the Toledo area. There was no consistency in the care, training, DSP support, procedures and guidelines. AG was not interested in feedback or constructive criticism. Many times DSP were not informed of changes or procedures to help individuals succeed. There was no accountability from management to DSP. At times, training occurred from DSP up to management versus from management and filtered to DSP with consistency and support. Many times, new staff were left to figure out what to do if a client was in need of added support because the supervisor &/or upper management did not make themselves available. Instead of trying to evaluate a marginal or unusual situation that occurred and correct and improve, excuses were made, lack of ownership or denial occurred. AG was an exemplary provider in years past but the present does not appear to be the same. There is some truth to: the grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence. However, even though change is challenging to individuals with developmental disabilities, there is some truth to: never settle for mediocracy because our loved ones deserve better. Be sure to do your homework, even though it can be a time consuming challenge.
The state and the county own some responsibility, even though small, for allowing an agency to decline in providing quality services.
